The Patent Engineer contributes to the protection, development, and defense of the company's intellectual property (IP) assets. The role supports R&D and business teams in identifying inventions, securing patent rights, and ensuring alignment of the patent portfolio with the company’s strategic objectives.

MAIN ACTIVITIES / TASKS OF THE POSITION:

  • Assess and identify the patentable elements of innovations developed by R&D teams.
  • Draft, file and monitor patents applications internally or in collaboration with external firms for France and internationally.
  • Manage grant procedures at patent offices.
  • Monitor FTO studies by assessing and anticipating risk and opportunities for change.
  • Participate in the implementation of the intellectual property strategy
  • Collaborate with business development and licensing teams to evaluate intellectual property assets for licensing and acquisition opportunities.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Interest in patent application drafting.
  • Knowledge of French, European, and international patent systems and procedures (INPI, EPO, PCT).
  • Strong analytical and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams (R&D, legal, business)
  • Proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple cases and priorities simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with patent databases (e.g., Orbit, Espacenet) for patent searching and analysis.

LANGUAGES:

  • French & English: Excellent level required (read, write, spoken)

LEVEL OF QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent university degree in a scientific/technical field such as mechanics, electronics, computer science, telecommunications, physics or related discipline.
  • CEIPI qualification (or equivalent IP qualification) completed or currently in progress.
  • Previous experience in Intellectual Property (IP) within a patent law firm or an in-house IP department is an advantage, but highly motivated junior candidates will also be considered.
